Summer with your Bestie
Meet Carlito and Adrien, two of the rock jumpers I photographed recently.
Last weekend in Billionaires Bay I decided to paddleboard out to the Rocks with my camera. I wanted to take some pictures from underneath the jumpers so I packed my camera into a waterproof container and asked my partner to paddle me out to one of the smaller rocks.
When I got there a couple of boys started jumping from the highest point there and I started taking photos. After the first couple of jumps they actually began posing for me mid- jump. They would discuss what pose they were going to do before leaping off the rock into the sea. I decided I had to go and find them later to take a couple of portraits for the ILCD photo story. I found them camped up in the bushes along the Sentier du Littoral up above the rocks they were jumping from. They kindly agree to let me take their portrait.
The next day I posted one of the photos on Instagram and to my surprise I received a message from Carlito who had seen it. He sent me a little bit of info about himself and his friend Adrien which I thought was so sweet that I had to share it on the blog as a short story.
My name is Charles, my nickname is Carlito.
I am 16 years old and I come from Grenoble near Lyon. I am Italian and French.
In Grenoble I am a competitive French swimmer and I swim every day with the Club Nautique Gresivaudan. Today is the first time I have been to Cap d’Antibes. I didn’t know this place before today and have never jumped from rocks like these before. I was scared to jump from so high but I wanted to do the same thing as my friend.

Adrien is my favourite friend, he is 16 too.
We are in the same high school and he is like a brother to me. He lives in Grenoble but originally he comes from Biot. We are here on holiday at Adriens family home in Biot.
Adrien practices Waterpolo every day with Pont de Claie Natation. Next week he is going to Bordeaux to join the French Air Force for one year. He will study science and Aviation there. I am going to really miss him while he is gone. It is going to be difficult for me not having him around. He will come to Grenoble for only two weeks next year. However I know that it is very important to him so I have to respect his choice. We will see each other again in 2 months which isn’t that long I guess.
Next year I am staying in Grenoble to study sciences at high school. In year 2 I want to go to the Lausanne school in Switzerland to become an International Manager, but I need to improve my English first.
