Route Calvaire Antibois
Walking the road race Calvaire Antibois.
In it’s third year the annual ‘Calvaire Antibois’ is a 10 kilometer road race through the streets of Cap d’Antibes. The race starts and ends in Le Ponteil.
The route takes the 500 runners along the coast road of the Cap before leading them through the back streets, up to the Phare and back down to the start point. The most challenging part of the course is the Chemin du Calvaire. It’s a narrow, rocky and steep path which consists of what seem like endless steps up to the light house.
Having decided not to take part in the race itself I instead opted to walk some of the route after the race had finished. Although I have lived on the Cap for many years there are still streets I haven’t explored yet and the Calvaire root took me through some of those. I came across the most incredible views which seemed to suddenly appear out of nowhere between houses in these otherwise tree lined streets.
I didn’t actually walk the entire course but it still took me three and a half hours. Admittedly I was stopping a lot to take pictures otherwise I would have been much quicker. In any case if you want to follow the complete route then I suggest you give yourself at least another hour on top of my time.
I would also certainly recommend a pit stop at the Cafe de Bon Port up at the light house where you can have a drink and take in the amazing views, even though you will have seen plenty of those already.

Happy Exploring! Feel free to share or tag your photos on the ILCD FB or Instagram page too. I will share the best ones.
A building in the grounds of the Villa Inch Allah, an Orphange until relatively recently. It is now awaiting redevelopment by it’s current owners. I love Cap d’Antibs has very kindly been given permission to take some pictures of the villa in it’s current state before work begins later this year. I will keep you posted!
