I have seen Danielle walking around the Cap every day since moving here in 2009. Each morning, after dropping my daughter at school, I drive along the bord du Mer towards Antibes and every morning I see Danielle walking in the opposite direction. Always dressed in a coat and scarf (in the winter) wearing sunglasses and perfect make-up she walks at military speed with a large pair of headphones on her head. I have often wondered what she listens to while taking her daily exercise so a few days ago when I saw her near Plage des Ondes I decided to stop and ask her.

My name is Danielle, with two l’s . I live in Antibes, in the old town and I walk around the Cap every day apart from at the weekend. I walk all year round. In the summer I walk around the Cap in the morning and then in the afternoon I swim. It gives me time to myself to think.

What music are you listening to on your headphones?

I am not listening to music. I listen to podcasts. Mostly I listen to political podcasts, news programmes, film reviews, cultural programmes, things like that. Sometimes I listen to sports programmes. Yesterday, for example, I was listening to a book review. It’s always some cultural or informative podcast which I have on while I am walking. General topics which interest me.

Once a man stopped me to ask if I was listening to military music because I walk so fast, it was funny! but I never listen to music when I am walking.

Sometimes you come across the most amazing things here. I remember in 2014 I was walking past the Plage des Ondes and I saw an enormous group of Herons. They were  perched in the big tree there, just across from the beach. It was absolutely incredible! I have never seen anything like it.  I counted 14 of them. Luckily I managed to get some photos of them which I will email to you. Then a few weeks ago I was lucky enough to see two dolphins just off of Salis Beach which was also a very special moment for me.

Cap d’Antibes is really a wonderful place to spend time and there is always something to surprise you.
